Marie Arkhipova works between mosaic, glitch, 3D, AR and VR — treating ancient image-making and digital error as one continuous craft of reconstruction.

“For me, the tessera is close to the pixel. Both are small units that build an image through distance, rhythm and perception. I am interested in what happens when the image passes through time and media — an ancient mosaic loses fragments, a digital file loses quality, a machine tries to restore the past but adds its own logic, bias and imagination.”
These moments of distortion are not secondary to the work — they are often where the work begins. In my practice, technology is not a neutral instrument; it becomes a co-author, a restorer, an archivist, and sometimes an unreliable witness. The past is never fully recovered. It returns as a version, a backup, a corrupted file, a glowing fragment, a hallucinated image.
